A-Rod is 0-Rod as Yanks come to Philly

by Mike on October 31, 2009

Most of us are slightly athletic at best. Yet, there are a few ways in which we feel we could perform at the professional level.

We’d like to think we could hit a pair of free throws with no time remaining to win an NBA basketball playoff game.

We’d like to think our (slower) bat speed is perfectly synchronized to hit a fluttering Tim Wakefield knuckleball.

And sometimes a professional athlete’s performance is so awful, we swear that we do could do better. Or, at least, no worse.

And so it is with A-Rod at the plate, who enters tonight’s game at 0-for-8 with six strikeouts. As a fan, you should congratulate yourself: you have as many hits in the World Series as A-Rod does. I suspect that a meaningful percentage of baseball fans could have put “bat on ball” in at least 3 of those 8 plate appearances, which would be an upgrade to A-Rod’s six K’s.

It looks like Mr. May is becoming Miss October all over again.
